Church and worship

What does the Bible say about worship music?

The Psalms show worship sung loudly, quietly, in grief and in joy. Scripture cares more about the heart than the style.

What Scripture says

Psalm 95:1-2

Oh come, let’s sing to the LORD. Let’s shout aloud to the rock of our salvation! Let’s come before his presence with thanksgiving. Let’s extol him with songs!

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:19

speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Psalm 150:3-6

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet! Praise him with harp and lyre! Praise him with tambourine and dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and flute! Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with resounding cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
