Faith and doubt

What does the Bible say about faith and works?

Paul says we are saved by faith apart from works, and James says faith without works is dead. Together they describe a living faith that shows itself.

What Scripture says

James 2:17

Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.

James 2:26

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

Ephesians 2:8-10

for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.

Galatians 5:6

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love.
