Church and worship

What does the Bible say about giving to the church?

The early church shared to meet real needs, and Paul taught giving that is planned, cheerful and free rather than pressured.

What Scripture says

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 16:2

On the first day of every week, let each one of you save as he may prosper, that no collections are made when I come.

Acts 4:34-35

For neither was there among them any who lacked, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need.

Philippians 4:15-17

You yourselves also know, you Philippians, that in the beginning of the Good News, when I departed from Macedonia, no assembly shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you only. For even in Thessalonica you sent once and again to my need. Not that I seek for the gift, but I seek for the fruit that increases to your account.
