What does the Bible say about unity in the church?

Jesus prayed that His followers would be one, and the letters treat division as a serious wound to the body.

What Scripture says

John 17:20-21

“Not for these only do I pray, but for those also who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me.

Ephesians 4:3-6

being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all.

Psalm 133:1

See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!

1 Corinthians 1:10

Now I beg you, brothers, through the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
