Faith and doubt
What does the Bible say about blasphemy?
Blasphemy is speech that dishonours God. Scripture treats it seriously, while showing mercy to those who turn back, as Paul did.
What Scripture says
Exodus 20:7
““You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.”
Leviticus 24:16
“He who blasphemes the LORD’s name, he shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him. The foreigner as well as the native-born shall be put to death when he blasphemes the Name.”
Matthew 12:31
“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.”
1 Timothy 1:13
“although I used to be a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.”
