What does the Bible say about lying?

God is called the God of truth, and honesty is treated as a mark of belonging to Him. Scripture is clear that lying damages trust and the one who tells it.

What Scripture says

Proverbs 12:22

Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who do the truth are his delight.

Ephesians 4:25

Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

Colossians 3:9-10

Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator,

Psalm 34:13

Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies.
