What does the Bible say about widows?
Caring for widows is described as pure religion, and God repeatedly names Himself as their defender.

James 1:27
“Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
1 Timothy 5:3
“Honor widows who are widows indeed.”
Psalm 68:5
“A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.”
Deuteronomy 10:18
“He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.”
