What does the Bible say about revenge?

Scripture takes revenge out of our hands and places justice in God's. We are told to leave room for His judgment and to overcome evil with good.

What Scripture says

Romans 12:19

Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

Proverbs 20:22

Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.

Matthew 5:38-39

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

1 Peter 3:9

not rendering evil for evil or insult for insult; but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
